Folks, Several people birded the eastern plains this weekend on their way to and returning from the Fox Ranch field trip offered by The Nature Conservancy, Thank You! During this time Joey Kellner and I saw 4 Blue-headed Vireos! Two other separate reports of this species makes 6 unprecedented (I believe), Blue-headed Vireos in 2 days. Other outstanding birds seen by us and others include:
Reddish Egret American Golden Plover Eastern Phoebe (3) Sprague's Pipit Blue-headed Vireo (6) Black-throated Blue Warbler (1 male, 1 female) Black-throated Green Warbler (2) Magnolia Warbler Field Sparrow (7) Swamp Sparrow (2) Harris's Sparrow (2) White-throated Sparrow (2) Fox Sparrow (2, both red eastern race) LeConte's Sparrow These birds were not seen by all, were spread across many miles of eastern plains and were the result of plenty of hard work by many excellent birders! In addition to this list, several birds (possibly a few good ones) went un-identified due to insufficient looks. Thanks to all who participated for a gratifying 2-days of birding!
