Hello, Birders.

Here are some random observations, compiled while doing random errands around
Boulder County, yesterday, Saturday, Oct. 9th:

Baseline Reservoir. 5 Horned Grebes and 2 Orange-crowned Warblers.

Centennial Trail. 15 Western Bluebirds and 1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet.

Prince Lake No. 2, with Andrew. 2 Least Sandpipers.

Erie Reservoir, with Andrew. 1 Harlan's Hawk. Is Oct. 9th early for Harlan's
Hawk?

Panama Reservoir, with Andrew. 1 Great Egret, 1 Herring Gull, 3 American
Pipits, and a distant flock of shorebirds, including 4 dowitchers, 10 peeps,
and 1 yellowlegs. An immature Merlin spooked the flock, then gave a good go at
one of the peeps (pretty sure it was a Least Sandpiper). The chase was
dramatic, and the Merlin lost.

Little Gaynor Lake, with Andrew. A beautiful cock Ring-necked Pheasant.
(Remember when Little Gaynor was actually good for shorebirds and such?)

Boulder Reservoir, with Hannah and Andrew. 2 Horned Grebes, 115 Mountain
Bluebirds, and Chishun Kwong. Chishun told us he had just seen a Sharp-shinned
Hawk, and about 45 seconds after we had parted company with Chishun, Hannah and
Andrew and I saw his bird (an adult, probably a female).

McIntosh Reservoir, with Hannah and Andrew. 1 Horned Grebe and 4 Great Egrets.

Ish Reservoir, with Hannah and Andrew. 1 Great Egret, 5 American Pipits, and 2
Orange-crowned Warblers.

Everywhere we went, we saw high numbers of Western Grebes. Also very much in
evidence were Killdeer and Yellow-rumped Warblers.
