The Sandhill Cranes, first reported by Cole Wild yesterday afternoon, flew south at about 9:15 A.M. today and I estimated the flock at about 230 birds. Seven individuals remained until about 9:40 A.M. when they too took flight. Near the Bluestem Openspace parking lot, three Chestnut-collared Longspurs flushed from the taller grasses by the trail. Two more individuals were with Horned Larks on the east side of the reservoir along the hiking trail. One Lapland Longspur also was heard on the east side and east of the trail. The black-tailed prairie dogs that mostly died out about three years ago have made a very strong recovery.
The juvenile Sabine's Gull that has been present for over a week remains.
