Birders, The Ross's Gull put in an appearance at 7 am as it flew along the dam and landed on the sand spit near the pelicans. It stayed for 5 min and flew over the marina, over Stehoviac's head at the lake loop and disappeared for the next 2 1/2 hrs. Just as we were about to leave at 10 am, it had somehow snuck in and was again on the sand spit. Joe and I started calling anyone we could think of that was at CCSP. The gull stayed on the spit for about 15 min as many observers started pouring in. It then flew over the marina and landed on a log very close to the base of the trail at the base of the dam. It was there for a few minutes and then flew off toward the swim beach. I can't estimate how many people saw it this am but I know that several birders who had tried more than 2x finally got it.
