In contrast to the Ross's Gull habit of being between the sun and the
photographer for most of the

past few days, today it spent a lot of time near some large stumps in the
central part of the south shore. It was first seen by someone at 7 AM and was
there at 1 PM when I left.
It was swimming and flying and although it would fly away from the south side,
it returned several times.
This allowed photographers on the south shore to see it close-by, with the sun
at our backs. It flew within 30 feet once. The bird seemed to ignore us, and we
never flushed it. If you want to see it without tramping along muddy paths,
look with a scope from the south side of the Lake Loop, toward the southeast.
The record so far for farthest distance a birder travelled is a fellow who flew
in from Alaska.

Good luck.
Happy Thanksgiving.
