This morning, on totally frozen McIntosh Lake in Longmont, there was an
American Avocet. I spotted it standing next to a few Mallards and a large
group of Canada Geese out on the ice in the NW corner. Unfortunately, not
long after I saw it someone entered the wildlife closure area and walked all
the way to the edge of the ice flushing 80% of the birds present. I did not
stay long enough to see if it relocated to a different part of the lake.
Don't know if this is especially late but it was a first for me seeing one
on ice.
