Every year about 5-15 Greater White-fronted Geese in Canon City. After
wondering if the weather is just too warm up north to push them down here I
found 14 birds today in the ponds off Willow Street (one of two locations
they are usually found). Two of the geese are in juvenal plumage.

I enjoyed watching a good size flock of about 125-150 American Crows just
east of Canon City today. Though we don't often see such large flocks of
crows in this area, large flocks are fairly commonly found at just 40 or so
miles away in Wet Mountain Valley so it's not a long flight to get here.
The moderate drought in the area may be motivating these birds to move down
lower where there may be more food sources and there are definitely better
sources of water. In fact, many of the crows were perched on a gravel bar
in the river where they were enjoying a long drink and a refreshing bath.

I found some Cedar Waxwings and Evening Grosbeaks, both of which are all
around Canon City, in Florence today. I saw large flocks of mixed
blackbirds, including Red-winged Blackbirds, in both Canon City and
Florence.

I am posting photos of birds I saw today and some really cool waves in a
'rotor' cloud (weather service reported this phenomena and noted it was due
to winds and currents near mountains) near Canon City today onto my
BirdsAndNature <http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com> blog soon.
