Update ... sun out, snow stopped.  I walked out into the wheat stubble
field to see if I can get closer photos.  No dice, smarter than this
human.  So, I waited (they flew all around me) but never landed close
enough.

The Lapland Longspur population is probably 100-150 I watched a very
large flock fly around for abut 20 minutes.
