This morning, I stopped at Red Rocks and made sure the 100+ Rosy Finches had seed. Included in the large flock were 4 Black Rosy Finches, including two adults. Birders earlier in the morning reported the Harris's, White-throated, and Golden-crowned sparrows, and the Curve-billed Thrasher. After Red Rocks, I met up with Tom Pollock in search of a few good birds reported earlier. When we first got there, we were unable to locate the Dunlin after a thorough search, but located a Marsh Wren and Barrow's Goldeneye near the water tower. We then went and located the female Long-tailed Duck on West Gravel Lake. This duck dives for long periods of time!! After running into Dick Schottler ( who was unsuccessul in search of the Dunlin), Tom encouraged me to walk back toward the water tower and look for the Dunlin again. This time, we found the Dunlin between the Duck Platform and the water tower. After great looks, we got Dick onto the bird. After showing Dick the location for the Marsh Wren, we looked for the Dunlin again, but the bird had vanished. I have never seen so many Northern Harriers in this location. Photos of the Dunlin and Marsh Wren can be seen below:
