After a morning visit to Red Rocks Trading Post the highlights were: 2 spotted towhees 1 song sparrow 1 curve-billed thrasher 2 mountain chickadees 1 white-throated sparrow 1 sharp-shined hawk 90 gray-crowned rosy-finches 3-4 black rosy-finches 1 white breasted nuthatch (that we heard) 1 red breasted nuthatch The surprising thing was the amount of scrub jays when we don't see any up here in Ft. Collins. Also another thing was no brown-capped rosy-finches. After a stop in Morrison for lunch we went to look at the birds in Chatfield State Park were we saw a lot including some weird ones: 4-6 herring gulls 25-30 ring-billed gulls 7-10 common goldeneyes 2-3 western grebes 3 pied-billed grebes 1 common merganser In the end today was a great birding day and I wish everybody a happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Also the Pine Warbler came to our feeding station everyday for the past few weeks at least 6 or 7 times a day.
