I found a lone Horned Grebe at Centennial Park, Englewood near Federal
and Union this afternoon, Friday March 11.

It was feeding near a group of other more common diving ducks,
spending a lot of time underwater.

The bird was in adult, nonbreeding plumage as shown in the big Sibley
guide.

Also there was a very large Mallard X something hybrid on the lake.
It had a green head, yellow bill, and curly tail like a mallard, but a
uniformly brown body with green rump.  It was at least 50% larger than
the Mallards near it.
