I found a lone Horned Grebe at Centennial Park, Englewood near Federal and Union this afternoon, Friday March 11.
It was feeding near a group of other more common diving ducks, spending a lot of time underwater. The bird was in adult, nonbreeding plumage as shown in the big Sibley guide. Also there was a very large Mallard X something hybrid on the lake. It had a green head, yellow bill, and curly tail like a mallard, but a uniformly brown body with green rump. It was at least 50% larger than the Mallards near it. Jerry Cech Denver -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group.
