Hi CO Birders:
Do any of you have any suggestions for places to bird in or around Keystone? I will not be skiing, so I won't go to the top of the mountain, but I may rent snowshoes to bird some of the trails. I haven't had any luck with finding someone to bird with during our trip, so I'll bird solo. If anyone has any recommendations for particular locations, that would be great. In Jan. 2010, I had the great fortune to bird with Charlie Nims at the Silverthorne water treatment plant where we saw both Goldeneye's, plus other ducks; and in various other locations we saw Grey-crowned Rosy Finches as well as other birds at feeders. My goal for any trip is to find one life bird. Any of the following would be great:
Black Rosy-Finch
Brown capped Rosy-Finch
Gray Jay
Pinyon Jay
Clark's Nutcracker
I'm also interested in hawks and owls.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I don't know if I will be able to take the shuttle to other areas outside of Keystone, but if anyone knows of a particular "birdy" area, please let me know. If anyone is every in my area, please send me an email, perhaps we can bird together.
Happy Birding,
Susan Fortenberry
Sugar Land, TX
