This morning we were part of a group of 6 birders and we found 2 Horned Lark along the north fork of Sage Trail at Boulder Valley Ranch Open Space. As we observed the larks we were excited to have a flock of at least 50 Mountain Bluebirds land in the grass and on the yucca stalks. Question: Do Western Bluebirds mix in with flocks of Mountain Blue Birds? We thought we saw a few birds with the rusty color of Westerns on the breast, but weren't sure if these 2 species flock together.
