Like the swallows returning to Capistrano, the White-throated Swifts
have returned to Castlewood Canyon State Park in Douglas County.
According to eBird this is one of the earlier sightings in the last 10
years. With the earliest sighting in 2003 on March 16th. What makes
this significant to me is that my 9-year-old son, Oliver, first heard
them; then spotted them and made a positive identification. I could
have given him the answer, but it served as a learning opportunity for
him to let him make the call. In his good natured appraisal, the
B.O.D. (Bird Of the Day) was the White-throated Swift.
