I listened to Carolina Wren singing on the Canon City Riverwalk this morning
along the bluff trail just over a quarter mile east of the Sell's Lake
parking area (a few hundred feet east of the fence around the sewage ponds
and at the location that has been reseeded and has a sign to stay off
reseeded area). I heard some trilling there yesterday morning but had an
appointment and had to leave so I returned this morning. I also hear it
give it's trill call this morning.

Yesterday I saw about a dozen Yellow-rumped Warblers on the Canon City
Riverwalk, clustered around the area on the bluff trail where I heard the
Carolina Wren. This morning I could hear the chip calls of Yellow-rumps all
the way along the trail from Sell's Lake parking area and I saw dozens
foraging so there must have been an influx of them late yesterday. Some
look pretty rough as they are still molting into breeding (Alternate)
plumage.

Yesterday I also saw my FOY Lesser Goldfinch that I heard singing on the
Canon City Riverwalk. And near the Sell's Lake parking area was a flock of
8-10 Cassin's Finch. Not sure where they came from as I have not seen any
around Canon City all winter and they were not on the Riverwalk this
morning. I have post a few photos of the Cassin's Finch and molting
Yellow-rumps on my BirdsAndNature <http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com>

Many birds are singing and calling along the Riverwalk including good
numbers of Black-capped Chickadees, a species that is just recovering
numbers from a big hit by the West Nile Virus years ago. I found one pair
already building a nest while others are engaged in chasing each other.
There are still good numbers of Mountain Chickadees still there. There have
been several Pine Siskin singing and foraging along the Riverwalk,
appearrntly drawn to the tasty new buds on the trees there. Woodpeckers are
calling like crazy and also do a lot of chasing. Brown Creepers continue to
forage in pairs, also engaged in chasing behavior. Also spotted a
Ruby-crowned Kinglet engaged in repetitive chasing with a Brown Creeper.

It was like someone opened the door and spring blew in with one of the
strong wind gusts we have had.
