Arapahoe County:
--On April 8, Andrews reported an ad MEW GULL at the sandspit by the marina
at Cherry Creek. On April 10, a Lesser Black-backed Gull was reported by
Stecher at the sandspit at
Cherry Creek.
--A juv NEOTROPIC CORMORANT was reported by Asteriades at the marina at
Cherry Creek State Park on April 8. It is associating with
Double-crested Cormorants. On April 10, Wild and Stecher reported that the
NEOTROPIC CORMORANT continues at the marina.
Baca County:
--A Hooded Warbler was reported by Ogle in Walsh on April 10.
--Eastern Phoebes were reported by Kaempfer in Cottonwood Canyon on April
10.
Douglas County:
--An American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Spellman west of Sedalia
on Hwy 67 just east of Rampart Range Road on April 3. On April 6, Gent and
Vanderpoel reported 3 American Three-toed Woodpeckers. The Three-toes were
on both sides of Hwy 67 just east of Rampart Range Road. On April 8,
Bonomo reported a female American Three-toed Woodpecker just east of the
intersection of Hwy 67 and Rampart Range Road.
Eagle County:
--50+ Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by Filby at Spring Park Reservoir on
March 31.
On April 7, Filby reported 35+ Barrow's Goldeneyes at Spring Park Reservoir.
Fremont County:
--Black Phoebes were reported by Moss on April 9 along the Arkansas River
adjacent to and visible from Canon City Riverwalk. From Sell's Lake parking
area (9th & Sells Ave) take trail that goes down by the river a few hundred
feet. Near the bathroom bldg look across the river to the concrete storm
water structure. The phoebe perch in branches of trees and scrubs nearby.
Be aware of possible Black X Eastern Phoebe hybrids.
--2 Winter Wrens were reported by Mlodinow in Florence on April 9. One was
at the Florence River Walk.
--At Holcim Wetlands on April 9 Mlodinow reported a Swamp Sparrow and
Grasshopper Sparrow.
Gunnison County:
--Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by Pike on Blue Mesa Reservoir on April
10. They were west of the intersection of Hwy 50 and Hwy 149.
Huerfano County:
--On April 6, Nelder reported that the Harris's Sparrow continues to visit
her yard. Contact her at [email protected] if you want to try to see the
sparrow.
Jefferson County:
--On April 9, Henwood reported Curve-billed Thrasher, White-throated
Sparrow, GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW, and Harris's Sparrow at Red Rocks Trading
Post.
Kiowa County:
--13 Snowy Plovers were reported by Duane Nelson at Neenoshe Reservoir on
March 31.
8 Snowy Plovers were reported by Kaempfer at Neenoshe on April 10.
Larimer County:
--A juv YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was reported by Leatherman in an Austrian
Pine east of the porta potty on the golf course near the SW corner of
Grandview Cemetery on April 4.
Mesa County:
--2 Black-throated Sparrows were reported by Bonomo in Coal Canyon on April
7.
--A BLACK-CHINNED SPARROW was reported by Frid (an Ontario birder) on
Devil's Kitchen Trail in Colorado National Monument on April 8.
Pitkin County:
--All three species of Rosy-Finches were reported by Filby at Snowmass on
April 6.
Otero County:
--4 Snowy Plovers were reported by Percival at Lake Cheraw on April 1. On
April 9, Kaempfer found 4 Snowy Plovers at Lake Cheraw.
--A Black Phoebe and Rufous-crowned Sparrow were reported by Duane Nelson
in the Higbee area on CR 806 east of Hwy 109 on April 2. Remember that land
in this area
is private so stick to public roadways unless granted permission from the
property owner.
Pueblo County:
--On April 7, Percival reported a possible COMMON TEAL at Pueblo Reservoir
SWA which is on the NW side of the reservoir.
--Black Phoebes and a White-winged Dover were reported by Percival at Valco
Ponds in Pueblo on April 9.
Weld County:
--At Black Hollow Reservoir on April 2, Mlodinow reported 1 1st-cyc Thayer's
Gull and 2 2nd-cyc Lesser Black-backed Gulls. Black Hollow is private but
can be scanned from CR 19. On April 6 at Black Hollow, Mlodinow reported 1
1st-cyc MEW GULL, 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls (2 1st-cyc, 1 2nd-cyc), and 1
lst-cyc Thayer's Gull. On April 7, Wild reported 1st-cyc MEW GULL, 2 ad
Lesser Black-backed Gulls, and 1 1st-cyc Thayer's Gull. On April 8 Mlodinow
reported a 1st-cyc or 2nd-cyc Glaucous Gull, 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls (2
3rd-cyc, 1 1st-cyc) and 2 Thayer's Gulls (1ad, 1 1st-cyc) at Black Hollow
Reservoir.
--At the N Weld County Dump off of Hwy 14 on April 6, Mlodinow reported 1
1st-cyc Lesser Black-backed Gull.
--Mlodinow reported a Swamp Sparrow in a marsh across from Drake Lake on
April 6.
---A 1st-cyc BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE was reported by Wild at Windsor Lake- on
April 7. On April 10, Lefko reported that the KITTIWAKE was still at
Windsor Lake.
--A male Barrow's Goldeneye was reported by Wild at Luna Reservoir on April
10.
The DFO field trip for Saturday, April 16 will be to South Mesa Trail in
Boulder led by Paula Hansley (720-890-2628 or cell 303-263-1714). Meet at
0800 at RTD parking lot at southeast corner of intersection of Hwy 93 and
Hwy 170 (Marshall Road) for carpooling. Half day trip. Bring snack and
water.
