D.F.O. Monthly Meeting
Jeffrey A. Gordon - The New President of ABA
What's New at the ABA? / Birding Quiz Show

Monday, April 25, 2011
Denver Museum of Nature and Science
7:30 p.m.

DFO is pleased to welcome Jeff Gordon to our podium and to Colorado
and the Colorado birding community. Jeff was recently appointed the new
president of the American Birding Association and as such, has migrated
westward
from Delaware to his new home in Colorado Springs.
Newly-minted Colorado residents Jeff and Liz Gordon will join us for
an informative and entertaining evening for our last meeting of the spring
season. Jeff, who took the helm at the Colorado Springs-based ABA late last
year, will open with a brief update on some of the developments and
initiatives going on at the ABA, and will answer questions from the audience.
Then
the real fun begins as Liz joins Jeff on stage for a special Denver edition
of their popular, Jeopardy-style Birding Quiz Show. Covering a wide range
of bird topics, some "serious," some decidedly not so, this fast-paced show
invariably generates a lot of laughter and enthusiastic audience
participation.
Jeff is a writer, photographer, and naturalist. At different times
in his live he has been self-employed. He has also worked in the private
and public sectors as well as with non-profit groups. He authored 11 of the
chapters in the 2005 book Identify Yourself: The 50 Most Common Birding
Identification Challenges, and contributed an essay to the 2007 collection,
Good
Birders Don't Wear White: 50 Tips from North America's Top Birders. He
recently produced a series of video podcasts in conjunction with the new
Peterson Field Guide to Birds of North America, and was the sole photographer
for
the 2010 Peterson Field Guide to Birds of Eastern and Central North America
and Peterson Field Guide to Birds of Western North America.
Jeff has led birding tours around a large portion of the globe with
groups such as Field Guides and Victor Emanuel. He spent 12 years leading
birding tours full time, specializing in North & Central America, but also
guided trips to Antarctica and Africa. Since 2003, he has led tours part-time,
frequently visiting Canada, Texas, Mexico, and Panama.
Jeff is a frequent speaker and trip leader at birding and nature
festivals and birding conventions. He has worked with the Rio Grande Valley
Birding Festival, TX; Space Coast Birding & Wildlife Festival, FL; Cape May
Spring Weekend, NJ; New Jersey Meadowlands Festival of Birding, NJ; and others.
He has led field trips at ABA conventions from Maine to Louisiana to
Utah.
He serves as field editor for Birdwatcher's Digest, and is a member
of the Leica Sport Optics Pro Staff.
Additionally Jeff has served as coordinator for the Delaware Birding
Trail; president and board member for the Delmarva Ornithological Society;
and as associate director for the Delaware Nature Society in charge of the
Abbott’s Mill Nature Center.
As a lifelong nature enthusiast, Jeff has worked as an interpretive
naturalist at national parks including Yosemite National Park, California;
Acadia National Park, Maine; and at Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge in
Texas.

Join DFO to hear this charismatic, sought-after speaker and look
forward to collecting some ABA freebies (Birding magazine, Birders' Exchange
brochures, free Swarovski ELs) which Jeff, Liz, and Ted Floyd will bring along
for the evening’s fun-filled get together.
