Hi CoBirders,

Today was opening day at the Chatfield Banding Station and we had a pretty
typical late April day. We caught 9 birds in the banding station nets, 8 new,
plus a return Song Sparrow that was banded in 2007 and has been a regular
visitor ever since. We are trying to get a handle on the Nature Center/feeder
birds, so we caught some birds there as well - 11 White-crowned Sparrows, a
return Downy from last year and a White-breasted Nuthatch banded in 2007.
(Both the Downy and the Nuthatch were originally banded in a station net, not
at the feeder area.)

So, here are the totals:

Downy Woodpecker 1 return, banded 2010
White-breasted Nuthatch 1 return, banded 2007
Hermit Thrush 1
Virginia's Warbler 1
Myrtle Warbler 4
Spotted Towhee 1
Song Sparrow 1 new, 1 return, banded 2007 (probable pair; caught in same net;
male in breeding condition)
Gambel's White-crowned Sparrow 11

We will be open every day except May 20-21, weather permitting, through
Memorial Day. Look forward to seeing many of you!
