Folks, Ric Olsen, Norm Erthal, Joey Kellner and I birded southeast Colorado hotspots today. Land birding was as expected, with mostly western migrants in Baca, Prowers, Bent and Kiowa Counties. Two Buttes had 1 White-throated Sparrow, Lamar cemetery had 1 Red-eyed Vireo and Lamar Community College had 1 Broad-winged Hawk. Neenoshee in Kiowa County on the other hand, had 174 Whimbrel on the northwest shore. This was an amazing number for us and Dave Leatherman, who was counting them when we arrived. Land birding did improve in Cheyenne County, where we had a Nashville Warbler and female Hooded Warbler along with a Barn Owl. Get out tomorrow, it should be good!
