A very quick drive this morning from Del Norte to Home Lake at Monte Vista and
through the MVNWR yielded about 50-60 easy species. Most were common, but there
were a couple of goodies, which I will name.
Between Del Norte and Monte Vista: A jumbo-sized first-year Golden Eagle.
Home Lake: 6 Am. White Pelicans at Home Lake, after a large flock there last
week. 6 Clark's Grebes, which have been less common than Westerns here
recently. About 6 Yellow-rumped Warblers, which seem slow to show up.
Monte Vista Refuge: A Wilsons' Snipe, after seeing one just a week ago at
Alamosa. Heard but did not see American Bittern. Marsh Wrens are in. Eared
Grebes, ditto. Still a large number of Green-winged Teal lingering at Refuge. A
Lesser Yellowlegs. Lots of Sage Thrashers. Etc., etc.
