COBirders,
Just a couple of minutes ago a male Western Tanager made a brief stop in my backyard in suburban Pueblo. Besides being an unusual sighting at my home, I was surprised that he was only about halfway into his alternate molt. While it's been unseasonably cool in Colorado, my friends in central Mexico tell me it has been hot there. Plus, I assume the hours of daily sunlight still are a factor for molting in tanagers. Any comment from anyone about whether this is late and if so, any speculation as to why that might be?
