CO birders :
Bill Maynard and myself had a good morning at Chico Basin Ranch ( fee
area ) with some of the highlights as follows :
Holmes /Banding Station ( El Paso ) : Western Kingbird , Eastern Kingbird ,
empids ( many in the bags but we did not stop to check ) , Warbling Vireo
, Swainson's Thrush ( 5 to 6 ) ,Brown Thrasher , Warblers ; Orange-crowned
, Virginia's , Northern Parula , Yellow , Chestnut sided ,Magnolia ,
Audubon's , Black-and-White , Ovenbird , Mac , Summer Tanager , Indigo
Bunting (
only heard but was banded later ), Lincoln's Sparrow ( many ).
HQ Area ( Pueblo ) : Green Heron , Barn Owl , Great Horned Owl ( young
bird ) , Swainson's Thrush , Warblers : Orange-crowned , Yellow , Virginia's
,Black-and-White ( female ), MacGillivray's , Lincoln's Sparrow ( many ) ,
Warbling Vireo , Least Flycatcher ( heard ).
Rose Pond : Summer Tanager ( female type ) , Northern Waterthrush , Least
Flycatcher , Yellow , Audubon's and Virginia's Warblers and many Lincoln's
Sparrows.
No shorebirds except for Spotted Sandpipers as water levels are high and
no mud showing.
Nancy will give more details of the banding operations but I think it will
be a good list .
