After reading Robert Martinez' report on Belmar Park, we decided to
check it out this weeked. Excellent park, much nicer than I expected
in that rather crowded suburban location. Thanks for the suggestion,
Robert.

On Saturday, 5/21, we saw the following:

Turkey Vulture
Blue Winged Teal (male and female)
Spotted Sandpiper (m and f)
Barn Swallow
Double Crested Cormorant (m and f)
American Avocets
Snowy Egret
Northern Flickers (nesting!)
Canada Goose (also nesting)
That Canada/WFG hybrid Robert mentioned

Also the usual Mallards, Red Winged Blackbirds, Mourning Doves, and a
ton of other swallows that I couldn't ID.

As a bonus, there were some very cool Western Painted Turtles sunning
themselves on logs.

We liked it so much we went back on Sunday 5/22, thinking we might get
another chance to see the nesting Flickers, but we got quite a
different show. We saw a lot of new life: Mallard ducklings, Canada
Goose goslings, and even a baby rabbit.

We also saw a great blue heron, a bunch more painted turtles, and a
Hooded Merganser. Very nice.
