An odd bird added itself to our yard list this morning. Odd, not because it's
unusual, but odd because it picked an odd habitat in which to spend the morning
singing. A loud cheery 'witch it witch it witch it' came from above our house,
the hillside covered with scrub oak and mountain mahogany. (A pond and a few
cattails lie below us a quarter of a mile or more.) The Common Yellowthroat
seemed totally out of place, but I glimpsed him and heard his call as well as
this not-quite perfect 'witchety' song for most of the morning.
