Subject: [cobirds] Lesser Goldfinch pair with fledgling(?) in Pueblo

COBirders,

Lesser Goldfinches are known to nest generally later than other passerines
and I have seen fledglings here in Pueblo as late as the latter part of
August--maybe from a second brood. I was surprised yesterday, when I
returned from several days at our mountain cabin, that a fluttering Lesser
was being fed by an apparent adult in our backyard. Today I saw the same
activity again with the recipient seeming to beg as a fledgling would rather
than a female being courted. I'm pretty sure I saw the apparent youngster
being fed by adults of both genders (i.e. a pair).

The COLORADO BREEDING BIRD ATLAS I indicates that Lesser Goldfinches
generally fledge in early July. I wonder if any of you volunteers for the
ATLAS II have seen any FY activity among LEGOs yet.
