First let me say I HEARD the illusive Yellow-billed Cuckoo again
yesterday while on a walk near my home at 6:30 am... reward enough for
walking! LOL While I've yet to see one personally, even today my
friends Polly Wren and Paul, across town, saw one of the pairs they
host on their property here.

Also saw hummingbird nest very near my home where it is easily viewed
from above; a rarity I think. There are two tiny new hatchlings
inside. I'll try for photos...but someone with a better camera might
want to visit... I have yet to determine the species as I've not
stood there long enough to see mom yet (as if I'd know what SHE
was!!! Dad, of course, has nothing to do with them.)

And finally, while I've watched pugnacious Rufus hummers for a couple
weeks now (though all hummer-numbers are down this year; possibly
because I only have two feeders up?), this morning (7-17) I watched a
beautiful male Calliope fill up just outside my kitchen window.
Always stunning...

Past that, lots of Black-headed Grosbeak, Bullock's Oriole, House
Finch, Siskin, Am Robin, Magpie, some Yellow Warbler and hummingbird
youngsters are frequenting the feeders.

Where have all the EVGRs gone?
