Greetings All,

Today Tracy Clark and I birded Crow Valley Cmpgrnd, then went n. to the town of
Grover, made a short jaunt to Carpenter, WY (just so we could say we did), and
then hit Timnath Res on the way back.

Crow Valley had a nice smattering of migrants, the best of which was a calling
and photographed ALDER FLYCATCHER in the scrub along the streambed n. of the
campground proper. Perhaps rarer was a ROCKY MOUNTAIN HAIRY WOODPECKER near the
campground bathrooms. The bird was calling incessantly and moving about a lot,
as if extremely unsettled. Also at Crow Valley was a RB x BH GROSBEAK and a
INDIGO x LAZULI BUNTING.

In the town of Grover, to the n. of Crow Valley, we had a nice little group of
migrant Yellow and Wilson's Warblers plus a Willow Fly and two LESSER
GOLDFINCHES, which I believe are still considered rare in this portion of CO.

Timnath was packed full of birds, but we found no rarities, and left when the
wind hit 40+ mph, sustained, and the sand started to peel the skin of the
windward side of our faces.

As a FYI: Yesterday, Lower Latham had a nice assortment of common shorebirds in
modest numbers, but Weld CR 59 Ponds were nearly shorebird-free. Timnath had
very few shorebirds, and despite much tasty looking habitat, we saw no
shorebirds today at McIntosh (in Longmont).

Good Luck and Good Birding,
Steven Mlodinow (and Tracy Clark)
Longmont CO
