Highlight species include: (* denotes that there is new information on this species in this report) LEAST BITTERN (Fremont) REDDISH EGRET (Bent/Kiowa) Green Heron (El Paso) RED KNOT (Logan/Sedgwick) Lesser Black-backed Gull (*Logan/Sedgwick, Weld) Caspian Tern (Larimer, *Washington) White-winged Dove (Alamosa) American Three-toed Woodpecker (*Boulder, Delta/Mesa) Black Phoebe (Fremont) White-eyed Vireo (El Paso) Bell's Vireo (*El Paso) CAVE SWALLOW (Larimer) Chestnut-sided Warbler (*Adams, Clear Creek, *Pueblo. *Washington) BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER (*Washington) Blackpoll Warbler (*Adams) Northern Waterthrush (Adams, Fremont, Weld) Summer Tanager (Fremont) Adams County: --A Northern Waterthrush was banded by McBurney at the Barr Lake Banding Station on August 31 and another waterthrush was banded by McBurney on September 1. --On September 4, McBurney banded female Chestnut-sided Warbler and Blackpoll Warbler at Barr Lake Banding Station. Alamosa County: --A White-winged Dove was reported by Simmons in the town park in Hooper on September 2. Bent/Kiowa Counties: --The sub-ad dark morph REDDISH EGRET first reported by Duane Nelson on August 2 was relocated by Duane Nelson on August 24 at the north tip of Tern Island in Adobe Creek Reservoir. On August 31, Nelson reported that the REDDISH EGRET was on the north side of the channel separating the north and south parts of the lake. Boulder County: --A male American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Alex Cruz at Flagstaff Summit on the ground on downed Ponderosa logs on September 4. Clear Creek County: --A Chestnut-sided Warbler was reported by Moore in Georgetown not far from the Rufous-collared Sparrow location on September 2. Delta/Mesa Counties: --A pair of American Three-toed Woodpeckers were reported by Ritt on the County Line Trail off of SR 65 west of Grand Mesa at the split of trails 1,2 and 3 on August 31. El Paso County: --A singing White-eyed Vireo was reported by Drummond close to the Palmer Lake Reservoir Trail Head Parking Lot on August 23. It was along Monument Creek in dense willow carr. On August 29, Drummond reported that the White-eyed Vireo is still at Palmer Lake. The parking lot is accessible from Palmer Lake via South Valley Road and the one way Old Carriage Road. --A Bell's Vireo was reported by Bill Maynard at Chico Basin Ranch (fee area) on September 5. Fremont County: --A LEAST BITTERN was reported by Rich Miller on August 3 & 4 at the cattail marsh at Holcim Wetlands. Miller also reported a Black Phoebe on August 4. On August 28, Kibbe reported 2 ad LEAST BITTERNS and 2-3 fledgings at Holcim Wetlands. On August 29, Moss was able to photograph one of the fledgings. On August 30, Moss reported that the LEAST BITTERNS continue at Holcim Wetlands. Moss reported on September 2 that the LEAST BITTERNS were mostly heard and not seen much. On September 3, Moss reported that one bittern was seen in flight but otherwise no sounds or sightings of the bittern at the usual spot. She thinks that the family has moved to the larger cattail area. --A male Summer Tanager and Northern Waterthrush were reported by Rich Miller on the Canon City Riverwalk on September 3. The tanager was about 150 yards west of the MacKenzie Ave Parking Lot. Larimer County: --A Caspian Tern was reported by Wild at Fossil Creek Reservoir on the west shore with a bunch of gulls on August 30. --A Probable CAVE SWALLOW was reported by Wild at Timnath Reservoir on August 30. . Logan/Sedgwick Counties: --A RED KNOT was reported by Walbek on the south shore of Jumbo Reservoir on September 2. --A Lesser Black-backed Gull was reported by Kibbe at Jumbo Reservoir on September 3. Pueblo County: --A Chestnut-sided Warbler was reported by Percival in Rock Canyon at the eastern part of the Osprey Picnic Area on September 5. Washington County: --At Prewitt Reservoir on September 4, Kellner and the DFO Field Trip reported 2 Caspian Terns, BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, and Chestnut-sided Warbler. The BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER was at the outlet canal below the dam and the Chestnut-sided was at the inlet canal. Weld County: --An ad Lesser Black-backed Gull was reported by Lefko at Windsor Reservoir on September 2. --A Northern Waterthrush was reported by Mark Miller at Crow Valley on September 3. It was by a little pond north of the gate at the north end of the campground. Help with the Fall Counts Saturday/Sunday, September 10, 11 Saturday, September 11: Cherrry Creek Reservoir. Meet at 0630 at Audubon Nature Center (left turn immediately after turning onto Waterton/Roxborough road and before DOW parking lot for Waterton Canyon), Chatfield State Park. Will bird Bear Creek Lake Park and Bear Creek Greenbelt in the morning and Marston Reservoir in the afternoon. Sunday, September 11 Barr Lake Periphery. From CO 86, 0.5 miles west of Franktown, turn south on Castlewood Canyon Road, go 2 miles to old entrance; Homestead is first parking lot on the left. State Parks pass required. Barr Lake State Park.
