Though I have had about a hundred unique visits to my blog today I have
received only 2 suggested explanations for the apparent 'ear tufts' on the
Burrowing Owl I photographed. One asked if it had been windy and suggested
that the wind might have blown the feathers up on it's head. However, it
was not windy as I recollected and there were grass stalks standing straight
up near the bird so wind must not have blown much.

Just received an email from Christian Nunes who said that these were not ear
tufts but just feathers that were amiss. Gosh, of all the hundreds of
photos of Burrowing Owls I skimmed over today I guess I had the owl that
could use some grooming.
