Greetings All,

This morning, at about 7 am, Rachel Hopper and I had a BROAD-WINGED HAWK at
Crow Valley Campground. It apparently had roosted there, and departed quickly.
Crow Valley had little else of interest, but Joey Kellner and friends had a
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW at Norma's Grove first thing in the morning.

The whole lot of us then debunked for BYO Playa (as described by Joe Roller).
We did actually see 6 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS (but could not relocate the BB
Plover), and Rachel thought she saw even more golden-plovers, but birds are
hard to keep track of at this spot. The pond is quite large, and much vegetation
approaches its shore, allowing birds to disappear and re-appear.

The only thing I have to add to Joe's list of shorebirds was one Solitary Sand.

Whilst the group was focusing on the plovers, I took a wee bit of time to look
at the swarms of longspurs, pipits, and larks about the place. Including a wee
bit of the drive in, Rachel and i estimated 300 American Pipits, 250 or so
Horned Larks, 240 McCown's Longspurs, and 40 or more CC Longspurs. The longspur
counts may quite well be underestimates.

Rachel and I then went to Timnath Reservoir where numbers of birds are down
dramatically. No Lesser BB Gull, No Sabine's Gull. The back side had a scad of
Killdeer, but nothing resembling a Black-bellied or golden-plover (or even a
Semi Plover!).

Good Birding
