This Weld County birding hotspot was still hot today, along CR75, north of CR100 (this is just north of Murphy’s Pasture; approach from CR77 about 4 miles north of Briggsdale). Late this afternoon, with telescopes Cole Wild and I refound some of the good shorebirds that have been reported in recent days (but not all). We had: Black-bellied Plover –1 American Golden Plover – 2 Mountain Plover – 1 (photographed) Killdeer – about 10 Greater Yellowlegs – 1 Pectoral Sandpiper – 3 Baird’s Sandpiper – 3 Wilson’s Phalarope – 1 Prairie Falcon – 1 Several duck species Numerous Chestnut-collared Longspurs and several McCown’s Longspurs calling
At dusk, Crow Valley Campground was birdy, but we were unsuccessful in tracking down the Red-bellied Woodpecker reported by others. Lots of other woodpeckers though, including dozens of Northern Flickers (mostly Red-shafted, but also some Yellow-shafted), and at least 6 Downy Woodpeckers.
