My yard has been slow this fall. Almost nil. A few flycatchers three weeks ago.
The past two weeks,
Western Tanager
Townsend's Warbler
Swainson'sThrush
The past two days things livened up a bit.
Spotted Towhee
Brown Thrasher
5 Warblers yesterday
Nashville
Wilson's
Yellow
Orange-crowned
Yellow-rumped
Several White-crowned Sparrows have taken up residence this week.
This evening 2 Kingfishers flew into the yard on their annual fall visit. The
Blue Jays scolded them continuously. The Kingfishers nest down at the Poudre
River on 35th Avenue so I always wonder if and why they come up here where
there is no river.
After the sun went down I heard a loud squaking at the peanut feeder on the
deck.It was a Scrub Jay. The last time the Scrub Jays came to my yard in the
fall was during the fires above Boulder. I believe there are fires now. Two of
those Scrub Jays spent that winter with me.
Now at 7:30PM the Great Horned Owl is hooting in the trees on the east fence
line. It has been hooting for about 4 weeks. Isn't that a bit early?
A great day of birds, besides the pond area north of Crow Valley Recreation
area, in the pasture
White Crowned Sparrows
Brown Thrasher
Catbird
White Throated Sparrow
Yellow Rumped Warblers
Goldfinches
Meadow Larks
Spotted Towhee
Cedar Waxwings
Red-tailed and Swainson's Hawks along the Highway driving out to Crow.
