Greetings Again,

Today I started at Bonny Lake (which, for those who don't know, will never be a
lake again due to lost water-rights arguments with KS and NE; the campgrounds
are already closed, though one can walk in), and then went to Stalker Pond, and
finished my day with a "what-the-heck" visit to Eckley, just e. of Wray.

At Bonny:

1 RED-SHOULDERED HAWK (eastern imm)
2 Black-bellied Plover (n central shore)
1 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER (sw. shore)
1 Red-headed Woodpecker
1 Eastern Phoebe
1 CASSIN'S KINGBIRD (Foster Cpgrd)
12 Eastern Bluebird (Wagon Wheel Cgrd)
1 YELLOW WARBLER (per ebird, very late)

2 White-throated Sparrows
1 Lazuli Bunting

The Red-shouldered Hawk found by parking at a pull-off past Foster Campground.
This pull-off has a yellow garbage can by it, and the dirt track one might
otherwise drive towards the lake is blocked by 3 pink-orange boulders. This is
one of several similar pull-offs (but with different landmarks) and is 0.8
miles before the road turns sharply left, away from lake and into grasslands.
The bird flew out of some willows and into tall cottonwoods, where it skulked,
and I could not refind it despite being (methinks) directed towards it by Blue
Jays. Well streaked below, like some juv rufous-morph RT Hawks back in
Washington State, but very much unlike our RT Hawks, especially eastern ones.
No patagail marks on underwings, longish tail look....

The willows were packed with birds and yielded the Yellow Warbler, one WT
Sparrow, Laz Bunting, Eastern Phoebe. Should've spent more time hammering that
area, as the campgrounds were pretty dull.

Stalker L, just outside of Wray:
Philadelphia Vireo: In parking area. Fully yellow beneath, quite green back,
dark lores.
8!! Field Sparrows
1 White-throated Sparrow

Eckley
2 White-winged Doves
1 Common Nighthawk (late per ebird)

Good Birding,
Steve Mlodinow
Longmont CO
