After all the great birding I did during my trip to Lamar this past week, I
was working on chores today as I returned home last night. When I called
back to a chickadee in my yard this afternoon I was surprised to see a very
yellow bird that looked like a warbler fly quickly across my covered porch
showing white in it's undertail and no white wing bars--I thought that looks
like a Prothonotary (I might add that the only time I have likely seen this
species is years ago in So Texas when I was just beginning birding but I
certainly know what they look like from field guides). This bird appeared
to be responding to my calls and returning them with 'tseep' like calls that
were louder than warbler calls I have heard. So I watched it as close as I
could (binocs in car in front of house) as it flew around my yard, I
continued calling and it continued responding. I got my dslr camera from my
house and got several photos, now convinced this was a Prothonotary. It
flew into my next door neighbors yard where it was actively feeding on
insects and flying between scrubs and trees. I got to watch it off and on
for about 5 minutes and got several good identification photos which I have
uploaded to my Birds and Nature <http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com> blog.
What a great yard bird!
