On this first day of real wintry weather here in Huerfano County we have had
the following birds at our backyard feeder:

White-throated Sparrows are back
Song Sparrows
White-crowned Sparrows
Steller's Jay (just one)
White-breasted Nuthatch
Red-breasted Nuthatch (only the second time one has visited us)
Western Scrub-Jay
American Goldfinch
lots of Red-winged Blackbirds
A single non-breeding Yellow-headed Blackbird
lots of Dark-eyed Juncos
2 Hairy Woodpeckers
2 Downy Woodpeckers
Mountain Chickadees
Black-capped Chickadees
3 Spotted Towhees
Black-billed Magpies
Eurasian Collared-Doves (have never had this many...hope they do not hang
around!)
House finches
I could hear Sand-hill Cranes flying over this morning...sounded very
close...but never did see them
