Thought folks might be interested in knowing I watched the Red Rocks
feeders yesterday evening (Nov. 2)after the storm from 5:00 to 6:30
P.M., and did not see the Golden-crowned Sparrow. Then this morning
around 8:00 A.M. along with Michael Kiessig & Rob Raker, we observed
the adult Golden-crowned Sparrow for the first time this fall. We saw
him several times in the next hour. Last year the Golden-crowned was
first seen on Oct. 16.
Also there are still a pair of Prairie Falcons at Red Rocks using both
Cave Rock and Ship Rock for perches. They fly in and out of the eyries
they use on Cave Rock as well as the Peregrine eyries on Shiprock.
I'm not positive of this, but I believe in past winters we have only
seen one Prairie Falcon in the Red Rocks area. Be interesting to see
if the pair remains together throughout the winter.
