Hi All,
Threw some seed out early this morning at the feeders at the Red Rocks
Trading Post. The Golden-crowned Sparrow was seen early in the
morning on the flat rock under the upper apple tree and later in the
morning under the platform feeder. Lots of birds with the snow and
cold. Here's my approximation:
Western Scrub Jay 18
BC Chickadee 4
Spotted Towhee 3
Song Sparrow 5 including one dark milk chocolate colored bird with
bold stripes and central breast spot.
White-crowned Sp. 1 1st year bird
Golden-crowned Sp. 1 adult bird
Dark-eyed Junco 50+ including all sub-species - Gray-headed, Pink-
sided, Oregon, Slate-colored, Cassiar, one White-winged, & one PS x WW
Junco
Red-winged Blackbird 2
House Finch 50+
Pine Siskin 4
House Sparrow 20-25
In addition there were groups of Robins and single Townsend's
Solitaires in the Trading Post area.
On my way out there were two Prairie Falcons perched about 100 yards
apart on the Frog Rock formation. I didn't have my scope, so could
not positively identify the birds as a male and female pair. But
maybe there is a pair spending the winter together in the Red Rocks
area???
