CObirders, I saw a Prothonotary Warbler at noon today at Dixon Reservoir. Not sure if it was an adult female or a faded male. It had a black bill with fairly bright yellow head and breast, but lacked the golden-orange of the breeding male. It was shy and active.
It was on the southwest side of the reservoir, about 300 yards south of the parking area on the west side. It was feeding very low in vegetation that emerged from the ice at the water's edge, and was moving north when I last saw it. Take the small trail near the water; when you hear and see barking prairie dogs you're there. Dixon is located at the edge of the foothills west of Fort Collins. Take S. Overland Trail to County Rd 42c (Dixon Canyon Rd) and turn west. The road passes south of Hughes Stadium, then turns south up the hill. The parking area is 1/4 mile beyond the turn, and overlooks the reservoir. Bruce Baker Ft. Collins, CO p.s. It was really nice to be out birding for the first time since my July bike accident. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group.
