Hello COBirders, I was late to chase this rarity--9 days after it was first reported-- but despite low odds I got up at 4:30 am Monday and drove a big loop through Jumbo, Ovid, Julesburg, Sand Draw, Holyoke, Haxton to Sterling then home. Saw Harris’s Sparrow, Common Redpoll, Eastern Bluebird and other more usual species. Very impressed with a spectacular flock of Snow Geese that poured from the sky into Jumbo around 9:30 am. Made me think "passenger pigeon." They filled the center of the reservoir, then got nervous and did a blast-off before settling back down in the water. Colorado's Bosque del Apache! I saw the Common Ground-Dove at the usual spot around 1:30 pm after looking for an hour all alone. I was ready to throw in the towel. This dove is small-- at first I thought I’d flushed a Song Sparrow. Felt very lucky to find this little dove. Final notable sighting --a red-orange sunset on I-76 followed by Venus rising. Thanks to all who shared their sightings and tips to Julesburg and back. You made my day. 11 pics: http://twilberding.zenfolio.com/p173367884/slideshow
