I hadn't been to Salida for quite a while so ventured up there today. It
was a beautiful day, mostly sunny though I ran into a little rain halfway
there.

I saw American Dipper in the Arkansas River on the way up and two in river
right in Salida. Sand Lake had one male Common Goldeneye among a good
number of common waterfowl. Noteable by their absence were the
Great-tailed Grackles that have been resident on the small islands in this
small lake for some years--I did not see nor hear any. There were several
Common Mergansers among common waterfowl at Frantz Lake and one Western
Grebe. I checked the cemetery that is usually productive but other than a
few Mountain Chickadees and a White-breasted Nuthatch calling the only
wildlife were a herd of Mule deer including one with a very impressive
rack.

I looked for Rough-legged Hawks that I have found there at this time in
year in the past but did not see any.
