I had a Northern Saw-whet in my yard today. It was spotted about
10:30, am under my spruce tree for about 10 seconds before
disappearing. I thought it had hopped back up in the tree, but my
view is blocked by my patio cover Later in the day I was about to
toss more seed under the tree and was looking at the impression the
owl had made in the snow. I looked up and into the tree and there was
the owl! The tree sits above my retaining wall and I had a very good
look at it at almost eye level. The owl even had a dead mouse close
by on the branch with it. The tree is by my compost pile, which has
mice, on occasion.
