Joyce Takamine asked that I let you folks know when the Rosy-Finches
both come and go in my yard. They have left again, for higher ground
where they prefer to live. They won't come back until there is
another snow storm in the surrounding Spanish Peaks, below which I
live.

They were here the earliest so far; December 1st, for about a week and
then left. They returned on the 19th, and were gone again by
yesterday the 28th of December. I'm sure they will be back, at each
storm, until around March of next year.

This is the second time in 7-8 years that I've lived in this house
that Steller's Jays have visited. I've seen at least one for the past
several days. During the Spanish Peaks Christmas Count, Dave
Silverman and company located the Rosies, as well as a Field Sparrow
which was new to me. Also, he and others distinctly heard Bushtits,
which I've not seen here. The Song Sparrow also continues to join the
Juncos, House Sparrows and Finches regularly.

Several days ago, I had a Chihuahuan Raven in the yard. At first I
was confused; it was only slightly bigger than a crow, but looked and
sounded like a Raven and had quite a bushy amount of feathering above
and along its heavy upper bill. It wasn't till the breeze ruffled
it's feathers did I see the white buried deep along its neck.

With all the birds here, there are also several small hawks and a
couple Red-tailed that sit in the high trees watching the yard. I
wish they'd remove a few of the local raccoons that hang around.
