COBirders,
I dropped by McIntosh Lake at 2:45 Saturday afternoon to scan for gulls and my
son wanted to try again fro Bald Eagles.  No Bald Eagles, but plenty of gulls
(not my son's favorite by any means).  While doing a quick scan, there was a
behemoth of a gull on the northeast side of the lake.  It willingly moved to
the southwest side of the lake where it flew right by us at close range (30
ft).  The bird was a very lightly colored 1st/2nd CY Glaucous Gull.  Bi-colored
beak, pink legs, very light creamy brown, nearly white primaries (actually
darker than its brownish back color), scalloping all over the body and tail
except for the one or two tail feathers which were creamy white like the
primaries.  I think because of the replaced tail feathers, this likely makes
the bird a 2nd CY, but I just don't have enough knowledge to truly answer that
question.

Other than that gull, there wasn't anything else super interesting that I
detected in my very quick scan of the lake.
