Of course we've been wondering if the Greater Roadrunner will make it
through this snowstorm. It has not been spotted yet. I searched this
morning, saw one other birder, and passed the baton to two exceptional
birders. Hopefully more folks will be out this afternoon during the
prime activity time.

Birds seen: 1 Red-tailed Hawk, 9 Western Scrub-Jay, 5 Black-billed
Magpie, 1 Common Raven, 12+ Townsend's Solitaire, 25 American Robin, 6
European Starling

Birds *not* seen but thought about: 0 Greater Roadrunner, 0 Am
Kestrel, 0 Coopers Hawk, 0 Woodpeckers, 0 Am Crow, 9 Nuthatch, 0 Mtn
Chickadee, 0 Bushtit, 0 DE Junco, 0 House Finch

Birding Conditions: The snow on the ground makes an excellent backdrop
to see movement of birds on the ground and in the low brush/juniper.
The snow in the junipers aid in seeing any feeding birds, as the aware
birder will hear snow dropping or see the tree move easier with the
snow in the needles.

Conditions at Dinosaur Ridge: Alameda Road and parking lots are
plowed. Pavement is totally exposed and dry. CR93 parking lot has ice.
I snowshoed up from Red Rocks Gate 2 (one-half mile toward Morrison
from Alameda/CR93 lot). My focus was on the hillside below the Alameda
hairpin, between Alameda/CR93, and above Alameda from the hairpin down
to the Alameda/CR93 lot. These are the places where the bird was
sighted in the seven days prior to the storm. There were slight
tracks in the snow -- almost all of fallen dirt/rock -- although I
tried to imaging bird prints. No distinguishable prints of feeding
activity. Fresh deer droppings in one spot.

History: The snowstorm began Thursday 10:00 pm and lasted through
Saturday 12:00 pm. About six inches of snow are on the hairpin. The
snow depth is generally 9-15 inches in the mountain mahogany and
juniper feeding areas between Alameda and CR93. Weather this morning
was 27-32 degrees with 100% strong sunshine, and 0 wind.
