Good Morning All,
When I arrived at the feeders behind the Red Rocks Trading Post this
morning a couple of minutes past seven, the flock of about 50 Rosy-
Finches were already present on the cliffs to the south. I spread
some seed out on the rock wall and they came in and fed for a few
minutes on the rock wall and under the lower apple tree, then flew
back to the cliffs to the south as the W. Scrub Jays and squirrels
took over the feeding stations. Saw a couple of Black and several
Brown-capped - the remainder were Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches with some
Hepburn (gray-cheeked) in the mix. After about 10 minutes hanging
out on the cliff, the Rosy's took off and flew over the Trading Post
to the north. That was the last I saw them.
At 7:39 A.M. the Golden-crowned Sparrow appeared under the platform
feeder. I left shortly after.
Other items of note:
Great Horned Owl hooted several times - believe there is/will be a
nest site within hearing distance of the Trading Post. Have heard the
Great Horned Owl hoot during daylight hours several times recently.
Pair of Ravens behaving in courtship mode - spent some time perched
together on distant Ponderosa snag to the south.
Saw one of the Prairie Falcons perched on top of cliff.
