In addition to the spring migrants I posted about last night that I
observed at Tempel Grove, I also observed a pair of Eastern Phoebes that
were building nests-yes, plural. I observed one of the birds working on
each of two of the several partially built nests, a behavior documented in
this species by others, under a bridge over the Ft Lyon Canal that runs
through this area. One of the phoebes is a first spring and the other
appeared to be an adult. I have posted photos of this tonight on my Birds
and Nature blog <http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com>

I forgot to note that on my way down to Tempel Grove Sunday I stopped
briefly at the Fort Lyon Wildlife Easement on the north side of county
road. I didn't stay long as I didn't see any passerines. I did find one
or two Red-headed Woodpeckers in there. I also found Lewis's Woodpeckers
on the power lines along the county road. I drove to Van's Grove (all
these locations are listed on Colo County Birding) where I planned to do a
quick drive through so I could get on to Tempel Grove but I found someone
sitting and having brunch in a folding chair in the entrance so I drove on.

In addition to the birds I have noted, I was pleased to see very good
numbers of Western Kingbirds in the area plus a lot of Eastern Kingbirds in
areas with water nearby. Conspicuously absent were Bullock's Orioles (and
I have still only seen one male Bullock's in Canon City area), a species
not always easily spotted but usually heard loud and clear.
