An adult male MacGilli vray's Warbler sang lustily at 8:30 am this am on Willow
Creek Trail, Roxborough SP, easily viewed for at least 10 minutes from the
bench near the bridge crossing the tiny running creek. An unidentified bird of
similar size was seen flying low into the brush below the male, and although
the male kept close watch on the area below him, he did not initiate warfare,
so I suspect a potential mate may have been  around also. A Plumbeous Vireo
sang and moved  in trees close to  the trail for good viewing, and the usual
gazillion Black-headed Grosbeaks crowded the treetops, broadcasting their
operatic songs very far indeed. Blue-gray Gnatcatchers wheezed in a couple of
spots. Gray Catbirds were heard singing their sweet run-on songs, and we caught
one of them doing it  on the tippy top of a tall snag. Sp otted Towhees
abounded, and we had good views of two singing Green-tailed Towhees as we
departed the park. Tree Swallows and at least one Mountain Bluebird eyed bird
boxes, and Scrub Jays were dashing about in pairs.
