My wife (Laura) and I decided to attempt to find the Carolina Wren that was reported in Castle Rock by Kirk Huffstaterand followed up yesterday by Glenn Walbek. It was perhaps 30 minutes of so before we finally heard and then sawthe bird but it was still there and hopefully Andrew Spencer and Jesse found it as well after we left. We actually foundit in the trees above the concrete trail that goes south from the Plum Creek trail. This trail is not far west after you crossunder the Wilcox Bridge not to be confused with the bridge a little further that goes under I-25. A short ways south, thereis a bench on the east side of the trail and the Carolina Wren was seen just south perhaps 10-20 feet (I'm poor at judgingdistances). Hopefully, it will remain and continue singing at times since that obviously is the best way to find it. To recap getting to the area, take exit I-25 at the Wilcox exit in Castle Rock. Then go south 5 or 6 blocks on Wilcox to Second Street. Then left and park immediately on the south side of Second Street across from Dazbogs Coffee. Then goon the sidewalk that becomes the Plum Creek path, going under the nearby bridge (west) and a short ways before you cometo the other concrete path that goes south. Thanks Kirk and Glenn for letting us know. This is a great bird. Wayne & Laura WathenHighlands Ranch, CO
