Took some out of town friends birding at Manitou Lake yesterday. Don't usually bird there in August, things are usually dead. Boy was I wrong.
I added species #152 and 153 to the lake (over a 24 year span). I stumbled across a male Indigo Bunting in the willows and got a couple of pics. Never expected to find one of those up here. See photo here <http://www.acdseeonline.com/share-view/JJ272/KpcJMPsqAIRVVcpJKZzf/> . Also, saw 3 White-winged Doves flying around on the west side of the lake from the ponderosas at the south end; then across Hwy 67 to the west and the small residential pond SW of the lake. Another "did not expect to see those here" sighting. Yellow-rumped Warblers seemed to be moving through in small waves. And there may have been a Brewer's Sparrow or three in amongst the imm Chippies, but I didn't get a good enough look or photo to differentiate. Complete list below.
