This morning I found a beautiful adult male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker at the Abbey on H50 in Canon City. Surprisingly it was not in the usual location where sapsuckers have wintered here for years but in a siberian-type elm amongst the many trees located just south of the DOC Training Academy (after entering the Abbey from H50 take the road to the left and the DOC building will be in front of you and it has a large sign) and the frontage road.
Then at 4pm I found an adult male Williamson's Sapsucker, another gorgeous bird, in Lakeside Cemetery. It looks like Canon City's wintering sapsuckers are returning. It's way too late so photos of both later.
